Following Monday night’s tragic shooting in New York, in which four people, including a New York City police officer, were killed, President Donald Trump has weighed in on the tragedy.
“I have been briefed on the tragic shooting that took place in Manhattan, a place that I know and love,” the president posted on Truth Social Tuesday morning. “I trust our Law Enforcement Agencies to get to the bottom of why this crazed lunatic committed such a senseless act of violence. My heart is with the families of the four people who were killed, including the NYPD Officer, who made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless the New York Police Department, and God Bless New York!”
The shooting took place in a building on Park Avenue in Manhattan, just a few blocks away from Trump Tower.

Per CNN, the shooting is the deadliest in New York City since 2000.
The shooter has been identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a former football player who claimed to be suffering from the concussion-associated brain disease known as CTE. Tamura, police said, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after carrying out the shooting. The building is where the NFL has its headquarters, although Tamura, who fired both in the lobby of the building and on an upper floor, reportedly got off the elevator on the wrong floor.
In his suicide note, police told the media, Tamura asked that his brain be studied, which is something that many professional football players and their survivors have asked in recent years.

Meanwhile, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called for a national ban on assault weapons, following the shooting.
“The killer used an AR-15–style assault rifle. The same weapon of war used in mass shootings across America,” Kathy Hochul said in a statement Tuesday. “New York has some of the strongest gun laws in the nation. We banned assault weapons. We strengthened our Red Flag Law. We closed dangerous loopholes. But our laws only go so far when an AR-15 can be obtained in a state with weak gun laws and brought into New York to commit mass murder,” the governor said.
“The time to act is now. The American people are tired of thoughts and prayers.”
