Donald Trump’s long-awaited military parade is scheduled for this Saturday, the president’s 79th birthday, and is set to be answered around the country by “No Kings” protests from opponents of the president.

Asked about that on Friday, per HuffPost, the president replied, “I don’t feel like a king.”

“I have to go through hell to get stuff approved,” Trump told reporters.

One example he gave was having to involve Congress in a recent legislative effort to block California’s measure to phase out gas-powered cars by 2035.

“A king would never have had the California mandate to even be talking to you,” the president said to laughs. “He wouldn’t have to call up Mike Johnson and Thune and say ‘fellas, you gotta pull this off.’”

“No, no. We’re not a king. We’re not a king at all,” he said.

The website of the “No Kings” movement declares, “In America, We Don’t Do Kings.”

“They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services,” the site says.”The corruption has gone too far. No thrones. No crowns. No kings.”

Protests, large and small, are planned for throughout the country. Per CNN, millions of protesters are expected to participate in the more than 1,900 actions around the country.

“Demonstrators have since been protesting controversial raids and deportations in cities across the nation, including New York, Seattle, Chicago, Austin, Las Vegas, and Washington, DC, while the administration has doubled down on its display of military force against its own citizens,” CNN said of the protests.

“Even conservative estimates say that 3.5 million people turned out for the Hands Off mobilization in April. That’s already 1% of the population of the US,” Ezra Levin, co-executive director of Indivisible, one of the groups behind the scheduled protests, told CNN. “No Kings is on track to exceed that by millions more. This is historic.”
