On Sunday, Melania Trump turned 56. The day before, she had been rushed out of the Washington Hilton by Secret Service after a gunman opened fire outside the ballroom. Quite a weekend for a birthday.
A review of Truth Social activity around April 26 reveals a noticeable absence where a birthday message might typically appear. The White House issued an official greeting, but Donald Trump neither shared it nor offered any acknowledgment of his own.

The pattern is already on record. Trump posted birthday content for Melania in 2024. In 2025, her birthday fell during the Pope Francis funeral in Rome, which both Trumps attended, limiting the occasion considerably.

This year, there was no such overlap. Both remained at the White House.
Trump did tell reporters at his Saturday night press conference that the shooting had been a “traumatic experience” for Melania and that she “knew immediately what happened” when the shots were fired, describing her as more alert to the threat than he was.
Meanwhile, Melania’s birthdays seem to attract unusual timing.
Her 55th was spent at Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome. Her 54th fell during Trump’s criminal hush money trial in New York, where he stood outside the courthouse and told reporters, “it would be nice to be with her, but I’m at a courthouse for a rigged trial.” Sunday’s version involved an assassination attempt the night before and a husband who found time to celebrate Lee Greenwood’s family expansion.
Elsewhere online, Nicki Minaj stepped in with a public birthday message for Melania, a post that quickly picked up attention across social media.

The broader context around the birthday carried its own weight.
Jimmy Kimmel’s “expectant widow” joke from Thursday had resurfaced following the shooting, prompting Melania to post a statement on X calling for ABC to take a stand against Kimmel’s rhetoric.

The White House has not responded to the missing personal birthday message, and Donald Trump has yet to weigh in. Back in 2023, source told People that Melania Trump favors quiet, family-centered celebrations, adding, “Melania likes a low-key celebration.”
