The deadly ICE shooting that claimed the life of Renee Good last week took a surprising twist on Tuesday when it was revealed her father is a Trump supporter.
President Donald Trump addressed the matter during an interview with CBS News’ Tony Dokoupil at a Ford plant in Detroit. While trying to sound sympathetic, his comments sent a conflicting message to the family of the victim.
Good, 37, was shot in Minneapolis after she drove at an ICE agent during a protest against Trump’s migrant policies.
Dokoupil pressed Trump on the situation. “Her father, who was a big supporter of yours, he’s heartbroken right now. He’s also heartbroken because your administration has so quickly come out and said she’s a domestic terrorist. What do you want to say to her father right now?”

Trump responded cautiously. “That’s great. And I do, I think it’s great, and I would bet you that she, under normal circumstances, was a very solid, wonderful person, but you know her actions were pretty tough.”
He added that he had watched multiple angles of the footage. “When you look at the way that car was pulled away, there are a couple of versions of that tape that are very, very bad.”
Trump went on to blame the Biden administration for the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. “The bottom line is we have hundreds of thousands of murderers in our country, killers. ICE is trying to get them out. They were let in through an open border policy of Sleepy Joe Biden. ICE is working very hard to get them out, their job is being made very, very difficult.”

The Department of Justice confirmed Tuesday there is currently no reason to open a civil rights investigation into Good’s death. An FBI probe is still ongoing, though DOJ lawyers are not participating at this time.
The conversation quickly shifted to other topics, including the economy, Iran, and Fed chair Jerome Powell.
“Mr. President, help me understand. When I travel the country… people tell me they don’t feel it,” Dokoupil asked, pointing to persistent inflation concerns.
Trump fired back, painting a bleak picture of the state he inherited. “I inherited a mess of crime, I inherited a mess of inflation, I inherited a mess of places closing up and going to other countries.”
He also told the anchor, “you wouldn’t have this job” if Democrats had won the last election. Dokoupil countered that he would have, to which Trump quipped, “Yea but a lesser salary.”
Trump also promised “very strong action” against Iran if the regime proceeds with executions of protesters, including young demonstrators as young as 26.
“I haven’t heard about their hangings,” Trump said. “We will take very strong action if they do such a thing.”
