Always mocking critics

Recently, Trump stormed the White House briefing room after the Supreme Court ruled his tariffs unconstitutional.

Earlier in the day, during his annual White House breakfast with governors, he reportedly became “enraged” when he learned of the ruling. Holmes said, “Apparently, the breakfast had been going well. They were working together. And then President Trump became enraged. He started ranting about the decision, not only calling it a disgrace, but started attacking the courts at one point saying, ‘These effing courts.’”

Later, Trump addressed reporters. “I’m absolutely ashamed of the justices who voted to overturn my tariffs,” he said.  “Their decision is incorrect. But it doesn’t matter because we have very powerful alternatives.” His tariff program has been massive.

Since returning to the Oval Office in 2025, the government has collected roughly $30 billion every month, about 4 times what it brought in before his re-election. He also pushed tariffs to the highest level in nearly 100 years. Some of these hikes weren’t challenged, but the ones the court struck down were imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a law from the 1970s that doesn’t even mention the word “tariff.”

The Supreme Court debated how importers could be reimbursed. Justice Amy Coney Barrett said, “It seems to me like it could be a mess.” Veteran tariff attorney Robert Leo added that while the process would be slow and complicated, it isn’t impossible.

When a CNN journalist tried to ask a question, Trump immediately cut them off. “I don’t talk to CNN. It’s fake news,” he said, before moving on to another reporter.

Social media erupted.

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung amplified the attack, retweeting a Fox News post and writing, “CNN is fake news.”

During the briefing, Trump also praised Nicki Minaj. “Beautiful,” he said, while Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was barely acknowledged.
