Trump Slaps Another Sign On The White House — And It’s As On-Brand As You’d Expect

Too flashy for national landmark

Donald Trump has once again decided that the White House needs a little more Trump. This time, it comes in the form of shiny gold cursive lettering announcing something Americans already know exists: “The Rose Garden.”

Photos taken Tuesday show the new sign mounted along the West Colonnade, hovering just above the famous rose bushes. The lettering matches the same gold style Trump has been adding across the West Wing, creating a look that feels far closer to Mar-a-Lago than to a national landmark.

The sign sits in front of Trump’s self-styled “Presidential Walk of Fame,” an exhibit installed last fall that runs the length of the colonnade. It features portraits and plaques of past presidents, all filtered through Trump’s personal view of history.

One absence immediately stands out. Joe Biden’s portrait is missing. In its place is a framed picture of an autopen. Trump has often claimed, with no proof, that Biden’s staff used it to secretly run the White House. Biden has denied it many times.

During his first term in 2020, Melania Trump oversaw a controversial redesign that altered flower beds, added a limestone path, and removed a crabapple tree planted during the Kennedy era. Preservation experts warned at the time that the changes stripped the space of its historical character.

The transformation has only accelerated since then. In 2025, construction crews tore up the garden’s central lawn, a feature dating back to President John F. Kennedy, and replaced it with concrete pavers. The space was refitted with patio furniture and large umbrellas identical to those at Trump’s Florida resort. Trump later gave it a new name: “The Rose Garden Club at the White House.”

White House officials have defended the updates as practical improvements meant to support events and guest comfort. But critics argue practicality isn’t the real goal. They see something else at play, a desire to stamp Trump’s personal brand onto one of the country’s most symbolic spaces.

The internet wasted no time dragging the new look as flashy and completely unnecessary.
