Donald Trump welcomed the new year by unloading on George Clooney.

The president used Truth Social to attack the actor, his politics, and his career. The post came just as news broke that Clooney and his wife, Amal, were granted French citizenship.

Trump framed it as good news.

“Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France,” he wrote. He went on to blame immigration for crime in France and compared it to what he called failures under Joe Biden.

From there, Trump shifted focus.

He brought up Clooney’s past comments about Biden and mocked him for backing other Democrats. Trump also dragged California Governor Gavin Newsom into the rant, claiming Democrats were headed for defeat.

“Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser,” Trump wrote, before going on to mock Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democrats.

The post ended with a personal swipe.

Trump labeled Clooney an “average guy” and said he “got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies.” He added, “He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics.”

The attack followed Clooney’s recent comments about the media.

Earlier this week, Clooney criticized CBS and ABC for settling defamation lawsuits brought by Trump. He argued that the networks should have fought back.

“If CBS and ABC had challenged those lawsuits and said, ‘Go, f*** yourself,’ we wouldn’t be where we are in the country,” Clooney said. “That’s simply the truth.”

He also took aim at CBS leadership.

“Bari Weiss is dismantling CBS News as we speak,” Clooney said, warning that the press is losing its ability to inform the public.

Weiss quickly responded.

“Bonjour, Mr. Clooney! Big fan of your work,” she wrote in an email. “This is an open invitation to visit the CBS Broadcast Center.”
