Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit in New York state court on Tuesday against his niece, Mary Trump, as well as several New York Times journalists, over the bombshell report that was published nearly a year ago that discloses his tax information. The lawsuit reportedly seeks “damages in an amount to be determined at trial, but believed to be no less than One Hundred Million Dollars.” The lawsuit further alleges that the twice-impeached one-term president’s niece violated a 2001 settlement agreement among the Trump family.
The former president’s attorneys called it an “insidious plot to obtain confidential and highly-sensitive records,” in which Mary Trump “smuggle[d] records out of her attorney’s office and turn[ed] them over to The Times.”
According to an update from The Daily Beast, Trump is planning to file more lawsuits.
“More to come, including on other people, and Fake News media,” Trump said, the outlet reports.

“Trump himself is the target of a lawsuit linked to the estate dispute,” the Beast reports. “Shortly after Mary Trump’s book was published, she sued the then-president; his sister, retired federal appeals court Judge Maryanne Trump Barry; and the executor of the estates of his late brother Robert, accusing them of stealing millions of dollars from her after the 1981 death of her father, Frederick Trump Jr.”
Mary Trump responded to the lawsuit, calling her uncle a “loser.”
“I think he is a fucking loser, and he is going to throw anything against the wall he can,” Mary Trump said of her uncle’s new suit. “It’s desperation. The walls are closing in, and he is throwing anything against the wall that will stick. As is always the case with Donald, he’ll try and change the subject.”
I think the twice-impeached one-term president is trying to change the focus over the latest scandal. The former president’s campaign was reportedly well aware soon after the November 2020 election that claims it made about voting machine irregularities leading to his defeat were inaccurate. But they went with it anyway. Speaking of fake news, Trump has regurgitated his big lie of widespread voter fraud that doesn’t exist to claim the election was “rigged,” even though they knew it wasn’t. So, if Trump is filing a suit against the “fake news media,” he’ll need to sue himself, too.
