It was several outrages ago, so some may have forgotten it, but earlier this fall, Donald Trump made public statements tying the use of Tylenol during pregnancy to autism. The FDA, meanwhile, announced in September that ” initiated the process for a label change for acetaminophen (Tylenol and similar products) to reflect evidence suggesting that the use of acetaminophen by pregnant women may be associated with an increased risk of neurological conditions such as autism and ADHD in children.”

Doctors have strongly disputed that finding.

“Tylenol is safe to use during pregnancy,” Caitlin Baptiste, MD, an OB/GYN and medical geneticist at Columbia, said in an article earlier this year. “If you’re pregnant and your doctor recommends Tylenol for pain or fever, it’s riskier for you and your baby if you don’t take it.”

After not addressing the topic recently, the president pushed it again, this time in a Truth Social post.

“Pregnant Women, DON’T USE TYLENOL UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, DON’T GIVE TYLENOL TO YOUR YOUNG CHILD FOR VIRTUALLY ANY REASON, BREAK UP THE MMR SHOT INTO THREE TOTALLY SEPARATE SHOTS (NOT MIXED!),” Trump said in the post.

Per The Hill, “both the World Health Organization and the European Union have refuted Trump’s assertion that acetaminophen may cause conditions like autism and ADHD when taken by pregnant women. The FDA acknowledged that “a causal relationship has not been established” in public statements following Trump’s initial plea.”

There were some incredulous social media reactions to Trump’s Tylenol warning:
