Earlier this week, following the operation by the U.S. to capture the Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, talk again turned to Donald Trump’s longstanding effort to somehow purchase Greenland from Denmark. The White House even said, in a statement earlier this week, that “the president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the US military is always an option at the commander-in-chief’s disposal.”

A U.S. military attack on Greenland, among the many other terrible aspects of it, would represent an attack on a NATO ally, which would almost certainly trigger Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, and possibly put the U.S. on the brink of war with the rest of NATO, its longstanding allies.

With that talk in the news, Trump this week took to Truth Social to trash the longstanding North Atlantic alliance- and to seemingly blame NATO member Norway for denying him his coveted Nobel Peace Prize. Though the Nobel-obsessed Trump, for some reason, spelled the name of the prize wrong.

“Everyone said that couldn’t be done, but it could, because, beyond all else, they are all my friends. Without my involvement, Russia would have ALL OF UKRAINE right now,” Trump said in the rant. “Remember, also, I single-handedly ENDED 8 WARS, and Norway, a NATO Member, foolishly chose not to give me the Noble [sic] Peace Prize. But that doesn’t matter! What does matter is that I saved Millions of Lives.”

Very little of that is true. For one thing, Joseph Biden was president when Russia invaded Ukraine, and it was Biden, along with NATO, who organized Ukraine’s defense. Also, his claims about having “single-handedly ended 8 wars” only hold water if one uses extremely liberal definitions of the words “singlehanded,” “ended” and “wars.”

And yes, the name of the peace prize is spelled “Nobel,” not “Noble.” And while the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the Peace Prize, is appointed by Norway’s Parliament, the prize winner is not chosen directly by the Norwegian government.
