Trump’s Call-In Appearance Had Listeners Talking About How Different He Sounded

Sounds very weak.

Conservative pundit Scott Jennings said on X on Tuesday that he just got off the phone with President Trump.

He shared an audio clip where Trump talked mainly about tariffs. Trump discussed a recent court ruling that found most of his April ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs illegal and said he will ask the Supreme Court to overturn it.

Although most of his “reciprocal tariffs” remain under review, they will stay in effect until at least October 14 while he appeals. Sector-specific tariffs, such as those on copper and steel, are not affected by the ruling.

“Our country will be weak, pathetic and not rich… I negotiated seven peace deals because I was able to use tariffs,” Trump told Jennings. “Without tariffs, many of those deals, half of those deals, I wouldn’t have been able to do. It gives us tremendous negotiating power. It gives us tremendous economic power. And it’s the same exact thing that they’ve done to us for 30 years, and they’re still doing it.”

He added that if the ruling stands, it would be an “economic disaster” and said the United States would become “one of the very poor countries.”

Even though Trump spoke mainly about policy, his hoarse voice drew attention. Many listeners online noted the rough tone and speculated about possible illness or fatigue.
