At a recent press conference in Washington, D.C., President Trump and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro spoke about crime in the city. The way they presented it made many people say it felt like watching a comedy skit.

Jeanine Pirro said she will no longer accept sending kids under 18 who commit violent crimes to family court. She said, “We all want the same thing. We all want a safe city. We want a safe capital. We want to be able to bring our families here.” But she added, “Unfortunately, we are not in that position right now.”

Pirro thanked Trump for federalizing the D.C. Police Department. She said this step will help criminals know they cannot get away with bad behavior anymore.

She talked about young people who commit violence. “I see too much violent crime being done by young punks,” she said. These kids gather in gangs and hurt people. They don’t care where they are. They think they are safe because the laws are weak.

Pirro explained, “I can’t touch you if you’re 14, 15, 16, or 17 years old and you have a gun.” She shared a story about a man who shot someone on a public bus. “I convict him. And the judge gives him probation. Says, ‘You should go to college.’”

She called the laws “absurd” and said they must change. “We need to go after the D.C. Council and their absurd laws,” Pirro said. She wants to end no-cash bail and focus on protecting law-abiding citizens.

Pirro promised that with the President’s support, things would change. “We see you, we’re watching you, and we’re going to change the law to catch you,” she said.

She also talked about the limits she faces. When young criminals go to family court, they get light punishments like yoga and arts and crafts. “Enough. It changes today,” Pirro said firmly.

Many people online reacted to the press conference with disbelief.

One Twitter user wrote, “You can’t convince me this isn’t an SNL skit.”

Others criticized Pirro for standing next to Trump while talking about law and order. A user said, “How can she stand next to him and talk about law abiding citizens? Seriously?”

Below are more reactions from people online.

The press conference showed just how heated and dramatic the fight over crime and justice has become in Washington D.C.
