At first, FBI Director Kash Patel traveled to Milan for the game, presumably on the taxpayers’ dime, and was spotted drinking and celebrating in the locker room with the winning hockey team. It’s a pretty rare sight for an FBI director to be photographed partying, and also somewhat against the established protocol of sports championship celebrations, for someone not on the team to enter a locker room and join in.

Many noted that, between the continuing Epstein Files drama, the still-unsolved Nancy Guthrie kidnapping case, and numerous other bits of FBI business, a trip to Italy to party with hockey players was not exactly the best use of the FBI director’s time.

Also on Sunday night, President Trump himself called the winning hockey team. That’s not exactly a rare thing, but Trump spent several minutes praising the team, and promised a military plane to bring the winning team to the State of the Union address on Tuesday.

Trump also discussed inviting the team to the White House, while declaring that “we’re going to have to bring the women’s team,” as the U.S. women’s hockey team also defeated Canada to win the gold medal. “I’d probably be impeached,” he added.

Patel, between sips of beer, was then seen saying “I’m fucking on it,” as if organizing the travel of a sports team were part of the FBI director’s portfolio. He also repeatedly addressed Trump as “boss.”

Also on Sunday, Trump, on Truth Social, reposted an AI-generated video of himself skating with the U.S. team, scoring a goal, getting in a fight, and sitting in the penalty box.
