At the Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club on Sunday, the U.S. team pulled off a three-point comeback to beat the International squad 17-13.
The president’s arrival looked very different from the celebration on the course. Hundreds of protesters lined the streets outside the club, and security was tightened as Trump’s motorcade pulled in. Some of them ended up in confrontations with Trump supporters who had also turned out, and police stepped in to separate the two groups.
One protester, Allison Galvan, told ABC7 Chicago why she had come. “He’s not welcome,” she said. “We are wanting to send that message loud and clear.”
Inside, Trump was scheduled to say a few words at the first tee after an introduction from PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp. Organizers had expected a 15-minute address, and what they got lasted about a minute. He addressed his reception unprompted. “The fake news media will say I got a very bad reception, but we got a good reception,” he said.

He then gave a reason for cutting the speech short, telling the crowd he lacked “the courage” to give the longer remarks Rolapp had asked for. “These people want to see golf,” Trump said. “They don’t want to hear speeches. I’ll only say this: Our country is doing great, better than ever before.”
A heckler in the crowd yelled a profane accusation at him during the remarks.

At the trophy presentation, cameras and microphones picked up pieces of his conversation with the U.S. players. After shaking hands with captain Brandt Snedeker, Trump appeared to tell him, “You’re going to go down in history.”
He then turned away from the group and seemed to say, “I’d like to go home.” The players around him walked off, and a song by anti-Trump performer Pink began playing over the speakers, covering whatever came next.
The clip landed quickly on X. The account Donk Media posted it with a jab at cable news coverage. “If this was Joe Biden it would be on a loop already on Fox News,” it wrote.

Trump’s own version of the day was far more upbeat. His Truth Social feed carried at least seven videos from the trip, including one of that short speech, in which his uneven gait was visible as he walked between spots.
When he arrived back at the White House just after 9:30 p.m., he told reporters it had been a “tremendous day,” congratulated Snedeker again, and took no questions. According to the White House press pool, reporters gathered for the medal presentation at 5:15 p.m., and the president left for his motorcade about 40 minutes later.
