Trump’s Most Loyal Ally Bashes Him Again And This Time It’s Not About Epstein

It’s getting complicated

Marjorie Taylor Greene, long known as one of Trump’s most loyal allies, has publicly broken with him over his latest executive order.

On July 23, President Trump signed an order titled “Promoting the Export of the American AI Technology Stack”. The order says the U.S. must lead in developing frontier AI capabilities, set standards, and ensure adoption of its AI technology around the globe.

Greene responded in a lengthy post on X on Thursday, July 24. She wrote: “My deep concerns are that the EO demands rapid AI expansion with little to no guardrails and breaks.”

She added: “Rushed AI expansion and data centers being built all over the country from state to state with no plan in regards to environmental and critical water supply impact has massive future implications and problems.”

Greene warned that the data centers could spark legal fights. “Just wait and see how bad lawsuits will become when counties are competing for data centers … new data centers that steal the water from surrounding homes and neighboring counties and states.”

She further criticized the order’s federal funding threat to states. “It also contains the threat of withholding federal funds from states who regulate AI, which is an absolute threat to federalism.”

Greene dismissed the argument that fast AI growth is essential to compete with China. “Competing with China does not mean become like China by threatening state rights, replacing human jobs on mass scale, creating mass poverty, and creating potentially devastating effects on our environment and critical water supply.”

Greene has previously criticized Trump over his handling of the Epstein files and the bombing of Iranian nuclear sites. But this time, she focused sharply on AI policy.

Back in June, Greene wrote on X: “I support nuclear armed Israel’s right to defend themselves … I don’t want to fight or fund nuclear armed Israel’s wars.”

She also took on Trump’s delay in releasing the Epstein files. She warned that MAGA supporters were unhappy and she wrote: “Dangling bits of red meat no longer satisfies … They want the whole steak dinner and will accept nothing else.”

Even though she criticized these issues, she has reaffirmed her support for Trump’s broader agenda.

Greene’s switch on AI comes after she supported the One Big Beautiful Bill, only to oppose it once she read the AI provision.

She later explained: “Full transparency, I did not know about this section … that strips states of the right to make laws or regulate AI for 10 years … I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there.”

Greene argues AI could devastate jobs in her manufacturing district and harm state autonomy. She said stripping states of power over AI regulation is not Republican.

Her criticism reflects a deeper divide within the GOP. A proposed AI moratorium in Trump’s megabill was scrapped after GOP governors and senators pushed back. The provision would have barred state AI laws for up to ten years. That fight ended with a Senate vote of 99–1 against the ban.
