President Donald Trump has frequently weighed in about the ongoing disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today Show anchor Savannah Guthrie. Last week, he stated that he supports the death penalty for the kidnappers.

“I spoke with Savannah Guthrie, and let her know that I am directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump said on Truth Social on February 4, a few days after Nancy Guthrie disappeared.

On Thursday, he made a bizarre comment about how the Guthrie story seems to be distracting from other things in the news- implicitly, the things that he would prefer to be in the news.

Per Mediaite, Trump was asked about the case by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy.

“Boy, it’s so crazy, so bad,” Trump said during the press availability aboard Air Force One. “I didn’t like when they were talking about going after the pacemaker, and you know, before they even started going after it, they’re coming and reporting it.”

“So if, in fact, they could do it that way, the person would say, “Well, I’m not going to let that happen,” right? So bad things would happen if you didn’t — not going to let that happen. I can’t imagine why they would have done that, just in terms of strategy, just one little piece. I don’t know. But we have to start reporting on other subjects also and see what happens. It’s a very sad situation. Yeah, I have to take off,” Trump said.

Meanwhile, Fox News reported this week that an anonymous donation had raised the reward for finding Nancy Guthrie to over $200,000.

All of Guthrie’s family members have been cleared of any involvement in the disappearance. And the Los Angeles Times reported that various figures, including Internet sleuths and psychics, have glommed on to the case.
