After Donald Trump called Katie Zacharia “a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning,” The Bulwark went through her archived posts and found a few she had deleted.
Bulwark editor Brendan Hartnett used the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine to recover posts from a Twitter account Zacharia deleted in 2022, along with some from her current account. The Bulwark published its findings Saturday, a day after she was named to the post.
The first item is a constitutional one. In a June 2025 post, Zacharia demanded the U.S. “suspend habeas corpus.” The Daily Beast reports she wrote it in reply to a message from Trump adviser Stephen Miller about sanctuary cities.
A second post, since deleted, was aimed at Gov. Gavin Newsom. She wrote that “the federal government under @realDonaldTrump should take over all of California.” The post goes on: “clearly you can’t be trusted to do a single thing.”

Vaccines got similar treatment. Zacharia was called out for an inaccurate claim that “8 in 10 women had a miscarriage after getting the COVID vaccine,” an article she reposted in August. The Bulwark noted that scientific data doesn’t support that figure.
In a deleted tweet last December, she wrote that the midterms would be a “bloodbath if [Republicans] don’t shift course now.” The midterms are next month, so the course is evidently still being adjusted.
Trump’s praise on Friday read differently. He cited her “unblemished record of support,” and added that she is “a devoted fan and member of MAGA.”
President Donald Trump announced his choice for the next White House Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia, on Friday.
Trump described Zacharia as a “loyal and brilliant supporter” who is a “devoted fan and member of MAGA.”
The president says he is confident Zacharia will deliver “strong results” for the country in her role.

Zacharia is an attorney who earned her undergraduate and law degrees at Pepperdine University, according to her LinkedIn. She is a senior communications adviser to Trump Media & Technology Group and briefly served as a Homeland Security spokesperson after Tricia McLaughlin left alongside Kristi Noem. Earlier this year she wrote a New York Post op-ed about wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat to her local gym.
She inherits an active briefing room. Karoline Leavitt left the job on August 27, and Fox News announced this week it had hired her as an on-air contributor. A federal judge on Thursday extended an order blocking Trump’s ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico from White House grounds.
Hartnett’s warning is the practical one. He wrote that the posts could “create uncomfortable questions for her” when she faces the press briefing room.
Zacharia has sounded upbeat so far. According to Variety, she said, “I look forward to working with the White House press corps.” The Daily Beast has asked the White House for comment.
