“Smart people don’t like me,” President Donald Trump said on Saturday night, to a crowd at his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey, at the Hope Through Education gala. “And they don’t like what we talk about.”
The remark, which drew laughs, was part of Trump’s longtime resentment of so-called elites, and also recalls his famous 2016 proclamation that “I love the poorly educated,” upon learning that he was polling well among that cohort.
It appeared to the the same speech in which the president announced that he would attend the stadium memorial service of Charlie Kirk, and present Kirk there with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

There were some amused social media reactions to what Trump said about “smart people”:

The comments at Bedminster came the same day the president issued an apropos-of-nothing rant about crime in the city of Memphis, on Truth Social:
“The only reason crime is somewhat down in Memphis is because the FBI, and others in the Federal Government, at my direction, have been working there for 5 months – on the absolutely terrible Crime numbers,” the president said on his social network. “Likewise, in Chicago and Los Angeles! But the real work by us has barely begun. That happens after we make the official announcement that WE’RE COMING, and when we do that, as we did in now VERY SAFE WASHINGTON, D.C., the no crime ‘miracle’ begins. ONLY I CAN SAVE THEM!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT.”
The president, however, has reportedly packed off of plans to send the National Guard into Chicago.
