Strange kind of diplomacy

Polish President Karol Nawrocki visited the White House on Wednesday to meet with President Donald Trump. They talked about Poland’s security and the war in Ukraine.

After the meeting, Nawrocki and his team left with bags full of Trump gifts. They got MAGA hats, white bags with Trump’s signature, and a big poster of Nawrocki with Trump in the Oval Office. The poster had the words “You will win,” and Trump also wrote, “Karol – You will be a great president!”

The gifts were more like campaign merch than normal presents for leaders. Trump often puts his name and face on hats, shoes, perfumes, and other things. This time, the Polish group left with the same kind of items.

Nawrocki became Poland’s president last month after a close election. He is a conservative historian and a strong Trump supporter. During his campaign, Trump backed him openly. U.S. allies like Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and CPAC chairman Matt Schlapp even flew to Poland earlier this year to show support.

At the White House, Trump promised to keep U.S. troops in Poland. He also said more troops could be sent if needed. Trump told Nawrocki the U.S. will stay a strong partner as Poland worries about Russia’s war in Ukraine.

But online, the gifts got more attention than the talks. Photos showed Polish officials leaving the White House with Trump hats and bags. These pictures spread quickly on X and Instagram.

Right-wing figure Benny Johnson praised the move. He said it proved Trump’s movement has gone global. Another user posted, “When Polish officials walk out of the White House with MAGA hats… that’s not just merch. That’s a signal.”

Trump fans enjoyed the stunt. They made memes and jokes, saying Democrats had to watch foreign leaders carry Trump’s brand.

For President Nawrocki, the meeting gave him strong public support from Trump as he starts his new role in Poland. For Trump, it was a chance to push his image and brand beyond America.
