As if things weren’t already bad enough for the one-term, twice-impeached, disgraced former President Donald Trump, they just got a whole lot worse after a bombshell new report revealed that a staggering seven Capitol Police officers are suing the ex-president for not only his involvement in the fateful January 6th Capitol riot but for his incessant pushing of the Big Lie that got us there.

The lawsuit that’s officially been filed in the district court in the District of Columbia says the seven officers “risked their lives to defend the Capitol from a violent, mass attack — an attack provoked, aided, and joined by Defendants in an unlawful effort to use force, intimidation, and threats to prevent Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 Presidential election.”

They allege that Donald Trump, in cohorts with several other named defendants in the lawsuit, encouraged and ignited the events that took place at the beginning of this year through their unyielding refusal to accept the results of the 2020 presidential election and their decision to continue to spout lies, falsehoods, and conspiracy theories to their base — all of which led to the infamous “Stop The Steal” rally that deteriorated into the violent Capitol riot.

The lawsuit goes on to include a number of Right-wing extremist groups such as The Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.

The suit, which follows the House’s impeachment against Trump for many of the same reasons, goes on to note, “Trump, in concert with other Defendants, deliberately and persistently made and encouraged false claims of election fraud to discredit the outcome of the election and disingenuously incite outrage among his supporters.”

This lawsuit from Capitol Police officers follows a similar suit from Rep. Eric Swalwell and several of his fellow lawmakers who were forced into hiding to protect their lives on January 6th.

The officers’ suit states that defendants “‘conspired to use force, intimidation, and threats to prevent Joe Biden and Kamala Harris from taking office, to prevent Congress from counting the electoral votes, and to prevent the Capitol Police from carrying out their lawful duties.”

Their suit echoes Swalwell’s in saying they, “violated the Ku Klux Klan Act, which was designed to prevent precisely the kinds of politically and racially motivated violence they caused and committed on January 6.”
