Charlamagne Tha God, the co-host of the radio show “The Breakfast Club” as well as a podcast, has become a surprisingly important figure in politics over the last few years. Democratic candidates often visit his show and make news when they do, including when Kamala Harris went on the show and talked about her favorite rappers and college pot smoking. Harris appeared at an “audio town hall” with Charlamagne during the final weeks of the 2024 campaign.
Also in that campaign, a clip of Charlamagne talking about Harris’s positions on trans issues was featured in ubiquitous Trump campaign commercials.
Then, over the weekend, Donald Trump went after Charlamagne in a 1 a.m. Truth Social post, after the radio host appeared on Fox News show of his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump.

Trump called Charlamagne a “racist sleazebag,” objected to him using the word “God” as part of his name, and called him “a Low IQ individual.”
“He’s a Low IQ individual, has no idea what words are coming out of his mouth, and knows nothing about me or what I have done – like just ending 5 Wars, including a 31 year bloodbath between Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, where Seven Million people have died, and there was no end in sight. He didn’t know that, or India and Pakistan, or, wiping out Iran’s nuclear capabilities, or closing the horrendous open Border, or creating the greatest economy,” the president wrote.
Some noticed a typo in the Truth Social post:

It’s not clear what happened on the show that so upset the president. Per The Daily Beast, Charlamagne suggested that Jon Stewart should run for president in 2028.
“If we’re talking about like a change agent coming from the outside that’s really going to shake things up and somebody that I feel like can speak to, you know, all people, plus we actually… he’s a celebrity who actually knows what they’re talking about,” the radio host said, with Stewart’s longtime colleague Stephen Colbert his choice for vice president.
“Maybe a Jon Stewart-[Stephen] Colbert ticket, because, you know, Colbert’s not going to have a job,” the host said. “He’s not working because of President Trump, so they say.”
