A year has passed since National Guard troops arrived in Washington, and on Monday, Trump was busy attacking Apple, Toyota, and a nonprofit’s donor list.
The list came from a Truth Social post responding to Chandler Hall, associate director of public safety at the Center for American Progress, who appeared on C-SPAN to discuss a report his organization published in July, titled “The Trump Administration’s $1.7 Billion National Guard Deployments Fail To Reduce Urban Crime.”
“What we find is that across multiple cities, multiple datasets, and multiple time windows, we find no effect that violent crime actually did change” after the deployments, he said on air.
Hall wasn’t arguing that crime hadn’t dropped in Washington. He agreed that it had.

His argument was that the decline had already begun before Trump’s crackdown. He said it was “quite evident” that the trend predated the deployments and that lawlessness remained a real problem regardless. But it was his closing argument that appeared to catch Trump’s attention.
“I think it’s unfortunate that the president is continuing to still choose to boast that these deployments, these very costly interventions, are showing any result to try to convince voters that they should sign on for more of these kinds of interventions and federal overreach when, again, there’s no proof that they have any effect.”
Trump’s response turned a discussion about crime data into a sprawling attack on the organization, its donors, and even several major companies.
“Chandler Hall, representing, on Television, the foolish Center for American Lack of Progress, stated that adding the National Guard to Cities, including our now Great Again, Washington, D.C., had ‘NO impact on Crime.’ How crazy is that. Hall was met with furious dissent. The report is just another Radical Left SCAM, as are the people who fund this gaggle of Lunatics, including George Soros, Bill and Melinda Gates, Google, Apple, Visa, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, WellsFargo, Bank of America, Walmart, Toyota, T-Mobile, and NBC Universal,” he wrote.
The list didn’t stop with American corporations.
“Foreign support includes the Embassy of Japan, the Korea Foundation, Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (Taiwan), and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates.”
Trump followed that with a threat of legal action.
“This will be met with a lawsuit, which is being drawn now,” Trump wrote. “I am also strongly considering adding some of the contributors to this Fake Organization. Crime is way down since I took Office, and they know it. Liars, at this level, must be held accountable!”

There was one obvious problem with Trump’s donor roll call: CAP has not publicly disclosed a donor list in some time. The organization has explained the decision on its website, calling it “a prudent step to protect people” amid what it describes as a pattern of the administration “actively targeting leaders and institutions that have challenged the president’s actions.”
John Podesta founded CAP in 2003, years before he became chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump’s claim about “furious dissent” also appears to have come from a very specific source: one Fox News appearance.
Border czar Tom Homan told Laura Ingraham on “The Ingraham Angle” that Trump was “the greatest president in my lifetime” and argued that cities such as Chicago, which he described as “a shooting gallery every weekend,” should accept a similar federal deployment.
