Over 750,000 federal workers are either at home or working without pay. The government is shut down, and Americans are waiting for answers. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump spent Saturday at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia.
His motorcade left the White House around 10 a.m., while Congress remained deadlocked over health care, foreign aid, and other budget issues. Some federal websites now blame Senate Democrats for the shutdown, turning official channels into political messages, a move critics say could break the Hatch Act.
Unsurprisingly, people had strong opinions online. PatriotTakes posted a video of Trump on the golf course, highlighting that he was out playing while the government stayed closed.

He wasn’t golfing. He was cheating at golf.

One of the biggest mistakes we’re making day in & day out is to think Trump actually gives a fuck about ANY of us!! He’s only doing this gig to stay out of prison, extort everyone he can & destroy America. He should be done by next weekend.

Meanwhile, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson accused Democrats of prioritizing health care for undocumented immigrants. Trump backed it up with a video showing House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in a sombrero and fake mustache, with mariachi music in the background.
Trump has a long record of choosing golf over crises. In April 2017, North Korea launched missiles while he read the greens at Mar-a-Lago. In September, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, and the president was in New Jersey. People went without food, water, or electricity while he swung his clubs. In February 2018, he golfed during the Parkland school shooting. In August 2019, he hosted a wedding while mass shootings struck El Paso and Dayton.
Even in January 2020, he ordered the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani while at Mar-a-Lago. He watched his impeachment trial from the same course. During the COVID pandemic, he either stayed on his Mar-a-Lago course or traveled to Virginia clubs while Americans remained locked down.
Since starting his second term, Trump has kept golfing through high-stakes moments. Stock markets fell after his “Liberation Day” tariffs in April, yet he played. Central Texas faced deadly flash floods in July while he remained on the green.
An online tracker, didtrumpgolftoday.com, shows Trump has golfed 64 of 258 days since his January inauguration. The cost to taxpayers is estimated at $89.6 million.
