Recently, Trump spoke to children during a holiday call at Mar-a-Lago. He tried to praise Melania. “How are you doing, first lady? Ohh, look at you. People love our first lady, right, honey?” he said. He added, “Look at her, how elegant the first lady is? Look at you. I’m not supposed to be doing this, right?”

Melania barely reacted. She said, “Yeah… Anybody else? They calling? They do? OK… OK… perfect.” She also said, “I’m waiting for a phone call,” and quickly looked away.

Her words were short and her tone was flat. It was clear she was not paying much attention.


The clip caught people’s eyes online. Many noticed how cold Melania seemed while Trump spoke.


The first lady’s reaction shows tension. Trump often makes everything about himself. He wants all the attention. Since his second term began, Melania has stayed away from public events and seems less willing to follow his lead.

Trump’s holiday call is an example of this. He wanted to make it about Melania, but she did not respond like he expected. Her short answers and quick exit told the story.
