The footage does not clearly show what happened. Some viewers believe Trump went in for a kiss. Others say Melania turned her head and offered only her cheek.
After that brief moment, the two shared a hug. The camera then moved away, leaving social media to argue over what they had just seen.
Reactions poured in fast.
One user wrote, “She presented him her cheek. That’s all he gets.”
Another person was even more blunt, saying, “There is none of the easy affection and love seen between long-term couples. just air kisses and obligatory hand holding for the cameras.”
A third added, “That’s like a kiss you get from a family member … not your husband! She always turns her head away.”
Others simply called the moment “very awkward.”
This is not the first time the couple’s public affection has been questioned.
Back in January 2025, Trump leaned in to kiss Melania during his inauguration. Once again, she offered her cheek. The result was an air kiss that quickly went viral.
That moment also turned into a joke online.
One person wrote, “Trump went in for a kiss, and Melania’s hat was like, not today.”
Another added, “I’m actually screaming, Melania doesn’t even like being kissed by him. This is embarrassing LMFAO.”
Since returning to the White House, Melania has rarely been seen there. Reports say she spends most of her time in Florida or New York City.
Several outlets have said she wants to be a “part-time” first lady and prefers to focus on her son, Barron, who is now 19.
