Alpha claims fall flat

Back in 2018, Trump struggled to close an umbrella at Air Force One. In April 2025, it happened again. Now in October, the moment has repeated.

On Sunday, rain fell steadily over Maryland as President Donald Trump arrived at Joint Base Andrews for his trip to the Middle East. The 79-year-old stepped out of his car carrying an umbrella to stay dry.

As he climbed the stairs to Air Force One, the umbrella remained stubbornly open. Trump paused at the top, gave a thumbs up to someone on the tarmac, and turned to enter the plane, but he continued to struggle with the umbrella.

After a few seconds, a Secret Service agent stepped in, took the umbrella, and closed it. Trump then walked into the cabin as if nothing had happened.

The clip quickly drew attention online. Social media reacted with a mix of amusement and disbelief, especially as Trump has long promoted himself as an “alpha male.”
