Donald Trump appeared to have a bit of a meltdown during his impromptu Mar-a-Lago press briefing this afternoon, after a reporter confronted the former president and 2024 Republican presidential nominee and asked why Donald has failed to campaign “for nearly a week” now, in the midst of Kamala Harris’ trailblazing arrival on the 2024 election scene.
Early this morning, the former president took to his Truth Social account and self-announced that he would be holding a “General News Conference” at his Palm Beach, FL, golf resort and post-White House home.
Trump’s announcement was very vague and did not include specifics about what sort of topics he would be touching on during the press briefing event.
Shortly after that announcement, Donald’s former press secretary and a former close friend of his wife Melania, Stephanie Grisham, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and warned Americans that this is a clear sign that the ex-president is “panicking” in the midst of Harris’ resounding success.

“Re: Trump’s self-announced press conference today at 2 pm: He’s panicking. I’ve seen this play many times. He thinks his team is failing him & no one can speak better/’save’ his campaign/defend him but him. He hates the coverage Harris is getting & thinks only he can fix it,” Grisham wrote in her post.
Upon watching the press briefing, it certainly seemed as though Grisham’s assessment was correct.
During the Q&A portion of the event, a reporter confronted the former president about his apparent lack of genuine campaigning over the last few days, and the question did not seem to land well with Trump.
“Mr. President, you have not had a public campaign event for nearly a week now. Tomorrow you’ll be in Montana, which is not a swing state,” the reporter opened. “Some of your allies have expressed concern that you’re not taking this race seriously, particularly at a time where this is enthusiasm on the other side. Why haven’t you been campaigning?”
The reporter (who, for the record, was a female) was unable to even finish her sentence completely before Trump shot back, “What a stupid question!” as he rolled his eyes and shook his head in apparent distaste.
“Because I’m leading by a lot and because I’m letting their convention go through,” Trump continued after insulting the reporter’s question, appearing to reference his recent suggestions that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz won’t be confirmed by the DNC at the upcoming convention. “I’m campaigning a lot. I’m doing tremendous amounts of taping here. We have commercials that are at a level that I don’t think that anybody’s ever done before.”
Trump went on to devolve into a rant about how much foreign dictators love him.
