In a bizarre gaffe on social media Thursday, the official X account of the White House appeared to confuse the House Minority Leader, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, with a different African-American Democrat, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ).

The post, which used the familiar meme format of popular Spirit Halloween costumes, also used a picture of Jeffries wearing a sombrero, a literal example of the “hat on a hat” fallacy. For Jeffries, the post offered the captions “includes: Sombrero. One filibuster speech no one remembers.”

It was, of course, Booker, and not Jeffries, who delivered a record-setting 25-hour filibuster on the Senate floor earlier this year. Jeffries is a member of the House of Representatives, which does not have such a thing as the filibuster. Also, if it was a speech “no one remembers,” the reference wouldn’t make any sense, months later.

Per The Daily Beast, this isn’t the first time this has happened with those two politicians, as Democratic Rep. Jonathan Jackson “quickly deleted a photo of himself shaking hands with Booker, 56, captioned, ‘Democrats stand behind Rep. Jeffries.'”

Also, the two men got together to host a sit-in on the Capitol steps, back in April, to protest Republican budget priorities.

There were some amused reactions on social media to the mistake, which some speculated was no mistake at all.
