The White House has finally spoken out after days of questions about President Donald Trump’s bruised hand and swollen legs. The president, now 79 years old, was seen this week with a strange mark on his hand and a large swelling in both legs.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt gave answers on Thursday during a press briefing. She said Trump had noticed “mild swelling” in his legs and got checked by the medical team at the White House.
Doctors ran several tests. These included special scans of his legs and ultrasounds to check the blood flow. The final diagnosis was “chronic venous insufficiency AB.”
This condition happens when the veins in the legs are weak and cannot push blood back to the heart. As a result, blood starts to collect in the legs. This leads to swelling and heaviness. It is not rare, and it mostly happens in people over 50. The risk becomes higher with age, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Leavitt said doctors found no signs of blood clots or artery problems. Other tests, like a blood count and heart scan, were also normal.
But it was not just the swollen legs that got attention. The deep bruise on the back of Trump’s hand was also a big topic online. Some zoomed-in photos showed that the area was covered in makeup. The color of the makeup did not match the rest of his skin. There also seemed to be a raised scar hidden under it.
When asked about it, Leavitt told reporters that the mark came from shaking too many hands. “This is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen. This is a well-known and benign side effect of aspirin therapy, and the President remains in excellent health,” she said.
It was not the first time this hand bruise was seen. Back in February, the same hand had a yellow mark during Trump’s meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. That time, it also looked bruised and was hidden with makeup.
The questions did not stop there. Some people online pointed out what looked like a cut or small scar. Others wondered why makeup would be used at all if the injury was minor.
Leavitt gave more praise for Trump in a reply to The Independent on Wednesday. She said, “President Trump is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other President in history. His commitment is unwavering, and he proves that every single day.”
