White House Forced To Respond To Trump Health Rumors After Walter Reed Speculation Erupted

Worst week to go dark

After three days out of public view, Donald Trump went completely dark. The White House called a press lid at 11:08 a.m. Saturday and cleared his schedule, an unusual move for a president known for constant visibility, especially on Easter weekend.

That kind of silence rarely lasts.

Within hours, the internet filled in the gaps. Claims that Trump had been rushed to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center spread to over a million views, with reports of road closures near the hospital circulating widely.

The White House came out on two fronts.

The rapid response account went first. “Deranged liberals cook up insane conspiracy theories when @POTUS goes 12 hours without speaking to press. They said nothing when Biden routinely went 12 days without speaking to press. Fear not! President Trump literally never stops working.”

Communications director Steven Cheung followed. “There has never been a President who has worked harder for the American people than President Trump. On this Easter weekend, he has been working nonstop in the White House and Oval Office. God Bless him.”

CBS News producer Emma Nicholson added the only verifiable detail of the afternoon. A Marine sentry was photographed standing at the West Wing door at 1:50 p.m. Sentries at that post confirm the president is working inside.

Trump spent the day on Truth Social. Nine posts covering the New York Times, CPAC approval ratings, jobs numbers, and a misspelled 48-hour ultimatum to Iran. He said nothing about the American crew member still missing after Friday’s F-15 shootdown.

He also claimed Iranian military leaders had been “terminated” in a massive strike on Tehran, a claim that sat uneasily alongside his Wednesday night speech in which he said objectives were nearly complete.

The health concerns behind Saturday’s rumors are not new.

Trump’s October Walter Reed visit was framed as a semiannual physical despite an annual physical having already taken place six months earlier. His physician described it as a “scheduled follow-up evaluation” including “advanced imaging.” Trump told reporters the MRI was “perfect” and directed them to “ask the doctors” when pressed on why he needed one at all.

He has chronic venous insufficiency. His April 1 primetime address drew mass online commentary about his slurring and difficulty reading mid-sentence.
