For the majority of his second term as president, Donald Trump has had uncommonly low approval ratings. And throughout that time, Trump has gone out of his way to claim that the ratings are actually high.

On Monday, the White House’s official X account shared a post, originally posted by the president to Truth Social, in which he bragged about his approval ratings.

“I HAVE JUST GOTTEN THE HIGHEST POLL NUMBERS OF MY “POLITICAL CAREER,'” Trump stated on Truth Social on November 22.

“While my great work on the Economy has not yet been fully appreciated, it will be! Things are really Rockin,” the post continued. “Stopping WARS and Foreign Relations seems to be a strong suit. Also great, The Border and Stopping Crime. I predict that the Economy, with the already HIGHEST STOCK MARKET, EVER, and prices coming sharply down from the Biden disaster, will soon be at the top of the list.”

The White House went on to repost the same message, with a picture of Trump:

However, the post came appended with an X community note, stating that its entire premise was incorrect.

“No reference is cited for the claim that the President has the highest poll numbers of his ‘political career,'” the post stated. “However, there is a wealth of information that the President’s poll numbers are currently on the decline.”

Ironically, the original post was on Truth Social, which does not have a community notes system. It was only because it was re-posted to X that Trump was subject to an embarrassing community note. The president, despite having more than 100 million followers, uses his X account only sporadically, and its most recent post was an October 11 retweet of a video posted by his granddaughter, Kai, of the two of them golfing.

PolitiFact, among other sites, shows that Trump has nowhere close to the “highest poll numbers” of his career. The RealClearPolling average states that Trump has a disapproval/approval spread of -12.5, which is very close to the worst numbers of his second presidency. Trump has been underwater in that average since early March.
