Yet another round of old remarks from J.D. Vance has resurfaced this week and it’s once again not a good look for the already struggling far-Right Ohio Senator and Trump 2024 VP nominee.
Back in 2022, when Yale Law School graduate J.D. Vance was running for a seat in the Ohio senate, the Conservative lawmaker made an appearance on the right-wing Real America’s Voice Network, where he openly discussed his stance on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, following Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s deadly invasion and attack.
“I think it’s ridiculous that we are focused on this border in Ukraine,” Vance said in the 2022 interview. “I got to be honest with you, I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other.”

The interview sparked a bit of a heated back and forth on social media when former NBC News commentator and retired Army General Barry McCaffrey took to X (then known as Twitter) on the heels of J.D.’s remarks and wrote, “JD Vance is a shameful person unsuitable for public office. His comments are those of a stooge for Russian aggression.”

Vance responded to McCaffrey, also on social media, and wrote: “Your entire time in military leadership we won zero wars. You drank fine wine at bulls—t security conferences while thousands of working class kids died on the battlefield. Oh, by the way, how much do you stand to gain financially from a war with Russia, Barry?”

New York Times columnist David French caught wind of Vance’s attack against the retired Army General and launched his own attack against Vance, writing: “He’s talking about a guy with three Purple Hearts, two silver stars, and who commanded 24th ID in Desert Storm, leading the attack that led to one of the most decisive military victories in American history. This is such a sad and shameful attack on an honorable man.”

While Vance’s remarks and subsequent Twitter spat took place two years ago, the incident resurfaced on social media this week, in the midst of the overall controversy surrounding the Trump VP nominee who can’t seem to escape his own past, ranging from his past distaste of the former president to his unsavory remarks about childless Americans.
With those past remarks now making the rounds on X again, Conservative, never-Trump attorney, and the ex-husband of former Senior Trump Advisor Kellyanne Conway, sunk his teeth into resurfaced drama, writing, “I hadn’t seen this before, but I think this settles it. Vance is an a—hole.”

Former Department of Defense official Mike Walker also weighed in, adding, “JD Vance picked on the wrong soldier when he attempted to besmirch the service of one of the Army’s finest leaders, General Barry McCaffrey. Little JD must offer a public apology and stop talking about things he knows nothing about.”

As mentioned, Vance is already struggling to outrun his past as one member of a 2024 ticket that’s struggling to find its footing in the wake of Kamala Harris’ arrival onto the 2024 election scene.
To be frank, this certainly didn’t help his case.
