So we didn’t get the president we wanted and are now stuck with a lemon, but one associate of Kamala Harris’s has a novel idea: Have her serve as president during Donald Trump’s transition to the White House.
This is Jamal Simmons’s idea. Simmons is the former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris and he made this suggestion Sunday on State of The Union according to Mediate.
“Joe Biden’s been a phenomenal president, he’s lived up to so many of the promises he’s made. There’s one promise left that he could fulfill, being a transitional figure,” Simmons said. “He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris president of the United States — ”
Conservative commentator Scott Jennings and host Dana Bash were stunned by this, with Jennings exclaiming “Woah!” and Bash blurting out “Wow!”

“It would absolve her from having to oversee the January 6th transition, right, of her own defeat,” Simmons explained. “And it would make sure, it would dominate the news, at a point where Democrats have to learn, drama and transparency and doing things the public want to see — this is the time, this is the moment for us to change the entire perspective of how Democrats operate.”
“Okay, this has now jumped from an internet meme to a Sunday morning show!” Bash interjected. “Congratulations!”
“Jamal’s out here writing a season of House of Cards!” Jennings said, referring, of course, to the Netflix political spine-tingler.
Simmons later posted his controversial suggestion on X (formerly Twitter).
“Dems have better policies but we must realize the old rules no longer apply. We are not playing table tennis,” Simmons explained. “We are in a mixed martial arts fight and Americans respond to drama and excitement. We should use that to make our arguments for a better path forward.”

Frankly, Simmons has good ideas here. But I would be surprised if Biden resigns. I just don’t think that’s likely. And Democrats need to learn to come out fighting. There’s been far too many times when Democrats have just stood by when Trump (especially) and other Republicans have played dirty, nasty, and disgusting power moves.
That’s definitely got to stop and the Democrats must step up.
Of course, we know that talk of Biden resigning began after his disastrous debate in June. He stayed put for a while, telling George Stephanopoulos that he would only listen to suggestions on high from the “Lord Almighty” for him to step down. Later he did bow to pressure to allow Harris to become the Democratic nominee.
Simmons’s idea is a great one but it’s not going to happen. That’s unfortunate because I think it would make this sad transition easier for most of us to handle.
Oh well. We’ll have to endure the next four years and it will be a long slog. We’ll have to fight against the tide but it’s a fight worth winning.
