According to reporting from CNN, laughter erupted throughout the Manhattan courtroom where disgraced ex-President Donald Trump is currently on trial for 34 felony counts related to hush money payments made during the 2016 election cycle after one of Donaldโ€™s now-infamous old tweets came back to haunt him in the worst kind of way.

The tweet in question?

If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you donโ€™t retain the services of Michael Cohen!โ€

CNN analysts Kaitlan Collins and Paula Reid broke it down on a network segment, where they discussed the role that Donaldโ€™s own past words will likely play in this bombshell case โ€” with particular interest to one of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Braggโ€™s star witnesses; Trumpโ€™s own former personal attorney and self-described โ€œfixerโ€ Michael Cohen.

Both of the analysts were quick to opine that Donald Trumpโ€™s social media history โ€”most specifically tweets hailing from April 21, 2018, and Aug. 22, 2018 โ€” will serve as a living document for the jury to actually see the fine details of the long-running and highly-complex relationship between the now-former president and his one-time personal โ€œfixer.โ€

โ€œInitially when everything was happening to Michael Cohen, Donald Trump was saying, โ€˜Iโ€™m not worried about him, heโ€™d never flip,โ€ Collins explained. โ€œTo see the total 180 that relationship has done is so remarkable to me.โ€

Reid noted that Trumpโ€™s โ€œtestimony would decide the case,โ€ explaining that these past social media posts become even more relevant if the former president ultimately declines to take the stand.

In the end, it truly all comes down to what Judge Merchan will allow as evidence in the courtroom, but itโ€™s a very real possibility that the narrative of this entire case could be told through haunting old social media posts.

The story of the Trump x Cohen relationship can be seen clear as day through Donald Trumpโ€™s own past Twitter history โ€” which the former president was notorious for utilizing like a makeshift personal diary โ€” when Donald took to social media in April of 2018 to express his confidence in his former personal attorney.

โ€œMost people will flip if the Government lets them out of trouble,โ€ Trump wrote in April of 2018. โ€œSorry, I donโ€™t see Michael doing that despite the horrible Witch Hunt and the dishonest media!โ€

It was only 4 short months later that the then-president was suddenly singing a starkly different tune.

โ€œIf anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you donโ€™t retain the services of Michael Cohen!โ€ Trump wrote on Twitter in August of the same year.

Six years and multiple felony charges later, Donaldโ€™s flip-flop on his personal lawyer would come back to haunt him in a Manhattan courtroom, where his damning old tweets were read out loud for the jury of his peers to hear.

โ€œThe irony of that is Donald Trump retained Michael Cohenโ€™s services itโ€™s for decades,โ€ Collins said. โ€œAnd itโ€™s precisely why weโ€™re sitting here outside the courthouse right now.โ€
