Ratings for Harris-Walz Interview Are In—Trump Will Likely Be Furious When He Sees How They Compare to His Last CNN Appearance

The numbers don't lie.

On Thursday night, Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, did a joint interview on CNN, effortlessly pulling in almost 6 million viewers—quite the contrast to Donald Trump’s last appearance on the network. Trump’s 3.3 million viewers in May 2023 barely put a dent in Kamala-Walz viewership ratings by comparison.

Fox News and MSNBC may usually outshine CNN, but the interview was a much-needed boost for the network, though it still couldn’t match the numbers Harris and Walz achieved during their speeches at the DNC. Trump, always full of surprises, turned heads in May of 2023 when he opted to host a town hall on the network. A network he’s been at war with for years. The result? A measly 3.3 million people tuned in for his incoherent rambling.

Trump’s July interview with his running mate, JD Vance, managed to scrape together about 4 million viewers—not quite the numbers he’s used to boasting about. Meanwhile, CNN’s nightly news averages between 7 and 8 million viewers, which only makes Trump’s numbers look even smaller in comparison.

The popularity contest is clearly not going in Trump’s favor. In the DNC vs. RNC match-up, Democrats had the upper hand. Kamala Harris and her running mate pulled in 20.1 million viewers for their speeches, far outshining the RNC’s 17.9 million. On the final night of the conventions, Harris again came out on top, beating Trump’s 28.4 million viewers with her 28.9 million.

But, in typical Trump fashion, he’s still bragging about his numbers, calling them “the best and most successful in history.” Too bad he conveniently forgot that his viewership in 2016 and 2020 was higher than what he’s managed in 2024. Reality must sting when the numbers just don’t back up the hype.
