Lindsey Graham Appears To Admit Defeat, Reportedly Called Trump’s Debate Performance A ‘Disaster’

This is a major blow for Trump.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a loyal supporter of Donald Trump, is feeling frustrated and disappointed after Trump’s poor performance in the recent debate against Vice President Kamala Harris. Graham didn’t hold back, calling the debate a “disaster” and saying Trump was completely unprepared. After the debate, Graham said the debate team “should be fired,” adding to the growing concern within the Republican Party about Trump’s leadership and readiness.

This isn’t the first time Trump has struggled in a debate. Back in 2020, during the first presidential debate against Joe Biden, Trump’s aggressive interruptions and refusal to follow basic debate rules left many voters unimpressed. A CNN poll after that debate showed that 60% of viewers thought Biden performed better than Trump, which was a significant blow to Trump’s re-election campaign. His unpredictable style and refusal to listen to his advisors have always been a problem, and it seems to be getting worse.

During the recent debate, Trump made a wild and baseless claim that Haitian migrants in Ohio were abducting pets and eating them. “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs,” Trump said, without providing any evidence. He went on to claim, “They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there.” This statement, completely unfounded, is just one example of Trump spreading misinformation. His willingness to make such claims without proof is concerning for many voters who want real solutions to the problems facing the country, not baseless rumors.

Harris, on the other hand, took the opportunity to land some strong blows on Trump. In one memorable exchange, she told him he “got fired by 81 million people” in 2020 and suggested that he’s still having trouble processing his loss. This is a reference to the fact that Biden won the 2020 election by a significant margin, both in the popular vote and the electoral college, something Trump has repeatedly struggled to accept.

Lindsey Graham has been a strong supporter of Trump since 2016, but he’s not afraid to call him out when he thinks Trump is off track. After the debate, Tim Miller of The Bulwark caught up with Graham and reported that Graham was unhappy with the way things went. “That was a disaster. He was unprepared and we should fire the debate team,” Graham told Miller.

This isn’t the first time Graham has publicly disagreed with Trump. Earlier this year, the two clashed over the idea of a national abortion ban. Trump has taken credit for Graham’s re-election, once saying, “I blame myself for Lindsey Graham, because the only reason he won in the Great State of South Carolina is because I endorsed him!” But even with this history of support, Graham seems to be growing more frustrated with Trump’s behavior.

The biggest issue with Trump, according to many Republicans, is that he simply doesn’t listen to advice. As Twitter user Kyle pointed out, “Prepping Trump for a debate is an impossible task anyway because he’s just going to do his own thing anyway.” This has been a consistent problem throughout Trump’s political career. He doesn’t take guidance from his advisors, and he often makes decisions based on instinct rather than strategy.

Felicity Pereyra, another Twitter user, raised an important question: “At what point will they realize the candidate is flawed and there is no strategist alive that can whip him into shape?”

This frustration is felt by many within the Republican Party. They see Trump as a flawed candidate who is dragging the party down. In fact, a 2021 Pew Research Center survey showed that only 44% of Republicans wanted Trump to remain a major figure in the GOP, down from 57% just a few months earlier.

Trump’s unpredictable behavior has caused problems before. In 2016, he often went off-script during debates, which led to mixed reviews from both Republicans and Democrats. His remarks were frequently fact-checked and found to be false.

Even though Trump’s base remains loyal, there are signs that his influence on the Republican Party is weakening. Twitter user Bruno Amato said it best: “Every Republican should be fired for making Trump their nominee.” The fact is, many Republicans are growing tired of Trump’s antics and are looking for a way forward without him.
