With Another Hurricane Looming, Ron DeSantis Reportedly Snubs Kamala Harris’s Call On Storm Recovery (UPDATE INSIDE)

This is very irresponsible of him. Although it did seem like he had a change of heart.

As climate change continues to make life more difficult for all living things on the planet, Florida GOP governor Ron DeSantis has decided to dig in his heels and ignore calls from Vice President Kamala Harris who was offering aid to help his state recover from the deadly hurricane. An aide for DeSantis told NBC News, “Kamala was trying to reach out, and we didn’t answer.”

The aide also said DeSantis was dodging the Democratic presidential nominee’s calls because they “seemed political,” and added they did not know if DeSantis had spoken to President Joe Biden.

I wonder if that was before or after the DeSantis camp found out that the death toll for this Category 4 hurricane rose to more than 230 people across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

His people are suffering and dying and he denies an offer of aide from Kamala Harris because it seemed “too political?”

Criminy. That is just awful. Helene devastated huge tracts of land and caused unprecedented flooding, so I hope DeSantis’s constituents remember this when he comes up for reelection. It was completely stupid of him to refuse help from anyone at this time while people struggled for days without power in their homes and entire coastal communities were swept away.

And now, as I write this, Hurricane Milton, which has already achieved Category 5 status is heading directly toward Florida and is expected to be especially devastating. So let’s hope that if the vice president offers aid, DeSantis will be a little less stupid this time. Floridians are stuck with him for two more years. I hope they know what to do when election time comes around.

DeSantis’s self-centered act caught the attention of social media, who had some well-deserved sharp words for him.

@Out5pOken reminded us that DeSantis “signed a bill that removed the phrase climate change from Florida State Law.”

@feedfluxdigital tells us:

“When Americans are suffering, political pettiness should take a backseat to leadership and unity. This kind of behavior puts partisan politics over the well-being of the country. Typical of them, like in the other case where republicans voted against FEMA funding but now were whining about depleted funding, which was again false!’

@SaintLaurant noted:

“What a dastardly thing to do to the residents of the very State you’re supposed to be governing and helping in their time of need!”

Imagine being so insecure that you’re willing to let people in your own state suffer horribly because you don’t want help from a strong, Democratic woman who is running for president. I’m sorry, but when a hurricane is as devastating as Helene was, playing games like this is nothing but selfish, and with Hurricane Milton now bearing down and already more devastating than Helene, it’s time to drop out of politics.

I hope his constituents help him do that in November 2026.

Update: Apparently DeSantis is having second thoughts because he just said this, according to @KamalaHQ: “Everything we have asked for from President Biden for disaster relief he has approved.”

About time you figured that out, dude.
