Outrage Erupts As Trump Reportedly Considers Aileen Cannon For Attorney General—Absolutely ‘Insane’

This looks really bad.

The idea that Donald Trump is considering Aileen Cannon as his possible attorney general if he wins the presidency has made many people furious. This is causing a lot of talk because Cannon, a judge appointed by Trump, was the same judge who dismissed all federal charges against him in his classified documents case. Many believe she was protecting Trump, and now the idea of her becoming attorney general is being called “insane.”

ABC News recently reported that Cannon’s name was on a list of possible picks for top positions in Trump’s future government, including attorney general. This list is part of a document titled “Transition Planning: Legal Principles.” It includes people who could work in the White House, the Department of Justice, and other important offices if Trump becomes president again.

Jill Wine-Banks, a former Watergate prosecutor, shared her thoughts on this and did not hold back. She said on X (formerly Twitter), “Trump’s inclusion of Cannon is insane.”

Wine-Banks is not the only one who feels this way. Many others are worried about what this could mean for the future of justice in the U.S.

Lindy Li, a political strategist, shared a post about Cannon’s history with Trump’s trial. She wrote, “Judge Aileen Cannon delayed Trump’s trial past the election and ran out the clock for him. She protected Trump every step of the way. She attacked Jack Smith and smeared his role as unconstitutional. Now Trump is considering making her Attorney General. Can you say QUID PRO QUO?!”

Li, like many others, believes that Trump may be rewarding Cannon for helping him in the past. This whole situation raises a lot of questions. Some people, like attorney Tristan Snell, are asking if there’s a “quid pro quo” happening between Trump and Cannon. Snell also said on X, “If Trump appoints Cannon as attorney general, it should be grounds for IMMEDIATE investigation.”

The controversy around Cannon started when Trump was facing 40 federal charges related to his handling of classified documents. These documents were taken from his Mar-a-Lago estate after he left the White House. He was also accused of trying to stop the government from getting the documents back. Cannon dismissed these charges, saying that the chief prosecutor, Jack Smith, was not properly appointed. Trump, as usual, called this case part of a political “witch hunt,” and claimed he was innocent.

Even though Smith is appealing the decision, the fact that Cannon let Trump off the hook has made people suspicious. They worry that if Trump wins and picks her as attorney general, she might continue to protect him from any future legal problems.

As Lindy Li said, “Can you say QUID PRO QUO?!” The idea of Cannon as attorney general feels like Trump trying to make sure he stays safe from any legal consequences. Many people see this as yet another example of Trump using his power to protect himself. It’s a situation that is troubling and raises serious concerns about fairness and justice in the future.
