President-elect Donald Trump may have thought his transition would go smoothly, but he just received some bad news that suggests things aren’t going to go his way. Trump had said he planned to rely on recess appointments to push his cabinet nominees through, but Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell put the kibosh on Trump’s intentions Sunday, saying this isn’t going to happen, Raw Story reports.

As we know, Trump’s nominees include some pretty awful human beings — former GOP lawmaker Matt Gaetz, who has been investigated for allegedly having sex with a minor, and for alleged drug use, former Fox host Pete Hegseth, who paid a woman after a sex assault allegation emerged, and his former senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, who probably marches in Nazi boots in his dreams.

Undoubtedly Trump’s nominees are not being welcomed by all, and McConnell has reportedly said “There will be no recess appointments.” When that happened social media buzzed with talk of the upcoming standoff.

It led former federal prosecutor Harry Litman to observe, “Lines are drawn.”

“It would be sad as well as disgraceful if the Senate caved on this,” he said. “And the stakes go beyond the political, and even the constitutional. It’s an inordinate and unnecessary national security risk.”

Yashar Ali, writing for Huffpost said, “McConnell will not be Senate Republican Leader soon, but he may be saying this based on conversations with his colleagues.”

“The idea that the U.S. Senate will give up its authority on this matter with the flip of a switch is foolish,” he added. “They’re not going to stop using pro-forma.”

“McConnell understands this would be the end of the Senate as we know it. Whether he’s in any position to stand up against the MAGAs is the real question.”

Correspondent Molly Jong-Fast simply said, “Let us pray.”

Let us pray 🙏

I’m an atheist so I’ll sit this one out. But Molly Jong-Fast could be right. Prayer may or may not work but perhaps this is the time for it.

Whether Trump likes it or not, I’m quite certain Trump’s nominees are in for the long haul. It may be the only time I’ve ever appreciated Mitch McConnell.

He’s finally doing something right.
