Karoline Leavitt, who will soon be Donald Trump’s White House press secretary, is facing criticism for deleting old social media posts. These posts had praised democracy, the rule of law, and showed support for then-Vice President Mike Pence and Capitol Police officer Eugene Goodman for their actions during the January 6 Capitol riot. Her decision to delete these posts raises concerns about her loyalty and beliefs. It also makes people question if she can be trusted in a role that demands honesty and transparency.
Shortly after the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots, Leavitt shared a retweet praising Pence for certifying the 2020 election results despite intense pressure from Trump and his supporters. The tweet, originally from Senator Tim Scott’s communications staffer, called Pence “a steady hand through the chaos” and applauded him for keeping “the wheels of democracy moving.”
Leavitt once called Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman “a hero” in another deleted post. Goodman bravely led rioters away from lawmakers, likely saving lives and preventing more chaos. These posts, which praised those protecting democracy, have mysteriously disappeared from her social media. Now, she publicly supports Trump’s false claims about election fraud.
By 2022, Leavitt had completely changed her stance. While running for Congress in New Hampshire, she fully supported Trump’s “Big Lie.” She claimed, “President Trump won in 2020,” and insisted there was no way Joe Biden could have gotten 81 million votes. These claims had no evidence but matched Trump’s false narrative about the election. Leavitt’s shift shows a bigger trend among Republicans. Many first distanced themselves from Trump after the January 6 attack but later supported his views as he gained more control over the party. This change isn’t just politics—it’s a clear threat to democracy.

The Republican Party’s habit of denying the truth is very concerning. Leavitt’s deleted posts aren’t just about her own journey—they show a bigger problem in the GOP. Many Republicans have given up honesty to stay loyal to Trump, ignoring facts and accountability. Take the January 6 riot, for example. It wasn’t a “peaceful protest,” as Trump and his allies claim. It was a violent attack on democracy. Officer Eugene Goodman risked his life to protect lawmakers. But instead of standing by her praise for his bravery, Leavitt deleted those posts to match Trump’s version of events.
Even Mike Pence, once Trump’s loyal vice president, has been attacked by Trump for refusing to overturn the election results—a move that was illegal and undemocratic. Leavitt once praised Pence but now supports Trump’s false claims of election fraud.
Leavitt, at just 27, will become the youngest White House press secretary in U.S. history. This role requires honesty, clarity, and respect for the truth—qualities that seem questionable given her history of deleting posts and flip-flopping on key issues. As Americans, we must ask ourselves: How can someone who erased their support for democracy be trusted to speak for the country? How can a party that denies the truth lead the nation?
