Jake Tapper suffers very few fools gladly, and this includes one Republican fool who tried to crab-walk his way out of an interview that turned divisive quickly. The unlucky Republican, Congressman Mike Lawler (New York), tried to blame Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for not passing any appropriations bills this year.
“You talk about the fact that we got to this point of a government shutdown, go down the hall in the Senate, Chuck Schumer passed exactly zero appropriations bills through the Senate floor this year,” Lawler said. “Zero.”
He went on to say, “So, there is a lot of work ahead for us,” but that’s when Tapper decided he’d had enough. “Yeah, it’s interesting he said,” as Lawler cut him off, saying “But we cannot shut the government down at this moment.”
“I certainly understand what you’re saying, but at the same time, with all due respect, sir, you’re going after the top Democrat in the Senate, and um, a lame-duck Democratic president,” Tapper said, beginning to sound frustrated, “your conference, the House Republican conference, we go through this every single time Republicans control the House.”
“You guys can’t pass legislation. You can’t govern,” he said. Lawler tried to run offense by saying “Respectfully, Jake, we’ve passed a lot of legislation —”

“Spending legislation and government funding legislation.” Tapper retorted. Here’s the clip below.

Tapper has probably heard every excuse there is when it comes to government shutdowns. And let’s face it folks, shutdowns seem to be the new normal. Because when it goes down to the wires, the GOP can’t get its act together. It was that lame-duck president, Joe Biden, who signed the measure to avert the shutdown. kicking it down the field until March 2025.
Folks on social media had plenty to say about this. Some lauded Tapper for kneecapping Lawler, others, well…
I’m didn’t realize that CNN was still operating. MSM got caught lying so much that people stopped watching them. Maybe next year.

Nearly 80 million Americans didn't want this to pass. Looks like we need some change in 2yrs. Doge fix what you can, X call out the woke bloat get them out.
— Michael (@Papaxtermin8) December 21, 2024
Rather than getting out the “woke bloat” we need to remove the GOP “thoughts and prayers” handwringing anti-woke bloat. This country has been tormenting immigrants for years now and it’s about to get worse. I have to ask how much money is going to be thrown at this problem. How much money is going to be used to torment the LGBTQ community and women?
So Tapper is right to get upset t at Republicans for all their farting around over nothing, and possibly causing real harm. Especially if they implement Project 2025.
Others on social media get it. They understand—at least these folks do.
He’s not always right, but he is 100% accurate this time!

Sadly, this is true. Republicans stand on principle and don’t see a bigger picture. You can’t always get 100% of what you want, but 70% is better than 0%. Time for new leadership that knows how to govern.

Tapper finally told Republicans the truth. They thought their dictator Trump would save the country until Elon Musk took over. 28 can't come soon enough. Then Kamala will straighten everything out, and democrats will show how the government makes life better for all.
