Mysterious marks on the bodies of presidents have a long tradition. George W. Bush’s facial boil. Joe Biden’s sleep apnea mask mark. Conspiracy theories spent a lot of time last month examining pictures of Donald Trump’s ear wound following last year’s assassination attempt. And that’s to say nothing of the various alleged incidents involving mysterious bulges during presidential debates.

Now, attention is being paid to a mysterious bruise on Trump’s hand.

According to NBC News, a bruise was spotted on the president’s hand, first noticed during his availability with French President Macron at the White House earlier this week. Some have been surprised by the White House’s explanation for the bruise.

“President Trump is a man of the people,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said this week. “His commitment is unwavering, and he proves that every single day… President Trump has bruises on his hand because he’s constantly working and shaking hands all day every day.”

NBC noted that Trump has had similar bruises on his hands on other occasions, including last August and November. And the president, unlike most who have held the position, has not released his medical records.

On social media, there were quite a few theories about what was going on with Trump’s hand.
