Recently, President Donald Trump has been facing growing questions about the United States’ role in the rising conflict between Israel and Iran. Now, he’s talking about flag poles.

On Tuesday evening, while the world was still processing the news of airstrikes, drone attacks, and threats of nuclear war, Trump made an announcement on Truth Social that left many confused and alarmed.

“It is my Great Honor to announce that I will be putting up two beautiful Flag Poles on both sides of the White House, North and South Lawns,” Trump wrote. “It is a GIFT from me of something which was always missing from this magnificent place.”

He continued, “These are the most magnificent poles made – They are tall, tapered, rust proof, rope inside the pole, and of the highest quality. Hopefully they will proudly stand at both sides of the White House for many years to come!”

This announcement came just hours after Trump called for the “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER” of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump also warned that the U.S. knows “exactly” where the leader is hiding, though he added, “at least not for now” when asked if he would be targeted.

The timing of Trump’s flag pole post took many by surprise. With violence escalating in the Middle East and the threat of wider war rising, the president’s focus on “magnificent poles” came off as out of touch.

On social media, people quickly shared their reactions.

The Middle East has been on edge since Friday, when Israel launched a surprise attack inside Iran, targeting nuclear and military leaders. Iran responded with missiles. On Tuesday, Trump said he was “seriously considering” joining Israel in the conflict.

He also pushed back against his own intelligence chief. In March, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard had said there was no sign that Iran was building a nuclear weapon. But Trump said, “I don’t care what she said. I think they were very close to having one.”

Despite earlier saying he warned Israel not to act during talks, Trump now appears ready to jump in. The Ayatollah has since rejected Trump’s demands and warned that U.S. involvement would cause “irreparable damage.”
