MAGA Spirals Into Racist Meltdown After Zohran Mamdani’s Stunning NYC Primary Win

MAGA had a somewhat racist reaction to Zohran Mamdani's win in New York.

Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old state senator, pulled off a shocking upset in the New York Democratic mayoral primary on June 24, winning a competitive primary in a field that also included New York’s former governor, Andrew Cuomo. And while ranked-choice elections like New York’s often take a long time to count the votes, Mamdani was proclaimed the winner on election night.

For Democrats, there have been many quick lessons from the victory: that there is potential in young, out-of-left-field candidates with massive political skills, that the issues Mamdani ran on, most notably affordability, have significant salience, and that it might be wise to avoid veteran candidates with considerable baggage, like Cuomo.

It has also raised questions about whether the party should move to the left, as Mamdani is a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist.

For MAGA, though? The reaction has been somewhat racist and anti-Muslim towards Mamdani, who is a Muslim, was born in Uganda, and is the son of parents of Indian ancestry.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) posted this, of the Statue of Liberty in a burqa:

Mamdani’s wife, contra Rep. Greene, does not dress like that:

Other MAGA pundits piped in with references to the 9/11 attacks, including leading Trump sycophant Laura Loomer, who has been trafficking in anti-Muslim bigotry for much of her career.

Dinish D’Souza, meanwhile, denounced Mamdani as “Muslim Obama,” as if he hadn’t written an unhinged book during Obama’s presidency, trying to tie him to Islamic extremism.

Roger Stone weighed in as well:

Mamdani enters a general election campaign against the Republican nominee, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, as well as the incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent. Cuomo may or may not stay in the race, on a different party’s line.
