On Friday, President Donald Trump claimed he had never seen wind turbines in China, sparking instant backlash and fact-checks across social media.
“I have never seen a wind farm in China,” Trump said. “Why is that? Somebody check that out.”
TRUMP: And we are putting up wind. It does not work, aside from ruining our fields and valleys and killing all the birds. Being very weak and expensive, all made in China. I have never seen a wind farm in China. Why is that? pic.twitter.com/zgY192gBvl

It didn’t take long for people to check it out. And what they found completely debunked Trump’s claim.

In reality, China is the world’s number one producer of wind energy. According to the Global Wind Energy Council, China has more than three times the wind power capacity of the United States. Thousands of turbines are spread across the country — from deserts in Inner Mongolia to coastlines in Fujian. Some farms can even be seen from space.
But this is not the first time Trump has made strange remarks about wind. He once said wind turbines cause cancer, called wind energy “a hoax,” and claimed they kill too many birds. His hatred for wind power dates back to a failed legal battle over a wind farm near his golf resort in Scotland.
Now, Trump is pushing harmful policy changes. His recently passed “One Big Beautiful Bill” cuts tax credits for wind and solar power. Experts say this move could cripple America’s renewable energy industry. A report from the Rhodium Group estimates that the law will halt between 57% and 72% of future solar and wind projects across the country.
North America’s Building Trades Unions slammed the move, calling it “the biggest job-killing bill in the history of this country.” In a statement, they said, “Critical infrastructure projects essential to that future are being sacrificed at the altar of ideology.”
With the rise of artificial intelligence, electricity demand is set to skyrocket. That means energy sources will matter more than ever.
Thomas L. Friedman, a columnist for The New York Times, said China is ‘laughing’ at the U.S. because of this policy shift. “The Chinese simply can’t believe their luck,” he wrote, “that at the dawn of the electricity-guzzling era of artificial intelligence, the U.S. president and his party have passed a giant bill that… undermines America’s ability to generate electricity through renewables.”
While Trump continues to mock wind energy and make false claims, China is pushing full speed ahead on clean energy. It is building the world’s largest wind farms, investing billions in research, and positioning itself as a global leader in renewables.
On social media, fact-checkers, scientists, and everyday users were quick to call out the lie.
Trump has never seen a wind farm in China because he’s an incurious narcissist who ignores all information that contradicts his biases. The Gansu wind farm is the largest onshore wind farm in the world, with 7000 turbines. China is the global leader in installed wind capacity. https://t.co/yXQOXm8LCJ

China leads the world in permitting & building new coal plants, but they have over 7000 wind turbines & are one of the leaders in solar power. Look, this guy loves coal & hates anything green, I get it. But the incessant lying, that’s easily fact checked, is off the charts! https://t.co/xf65Kt56Bj

There are tons of wind farms in China. Just another pointless easy to debunk lie that the cult will eat up like fast food. https://t.co/TAtcJAxVqw

Fact Check: China is literally the global leader in wind energy. The largest wind farms located in regions like Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang. https://t.co/z3JRrUbLWi

World’s largest wind farm is in China… https://t.co/0Htl7PFx4v

Wind power generates 10% of electricity in China, about the same percentage as wind power in US.
Trump should be able to know this. https://t.co/SLxDThCnkQ

“As of April 2025, 138 wind farms were operating in China. China has the largest number of offshore wind farms, followed by the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and Germany” https://t.co/Bu9h87JdOz
