The White House is struggling to explain why President Donald Trump keeps saying the calls from both Democrats and Republicans to release the case files on Jeffrey Epstein are just a “hoax” made up by his political enemies.
The fight over this issue got heated again during a White House briefing. Even some of Trump’s strongest supporters are demanding answers about the Epstein case. Epstein was a multimillionaire accused of sex trafficking. Trump knew him for years.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt faced tough questions from reporters. They asked why Trump keeps attacking those who want the truth and says there is nothing wrong with the Epstein case. When asked what part of the case was a “hoax,” Leavitt did not explain Trump’s claim that the case was made up.
Instead, she said Trump calls it a “hoax” because Democrats now want the files to be made public. She said this is strange because Democrats never pushed for transparency before.

Leavitt said, “The president is referring to the fact that Democrats have now seized on this, as if they ever wanted transparency when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein.”
Reporter: “Can you clarify which part of the ‘Epstein Hoax’ is the hoax part?”

Trump himself posted angry messages on social media. He yelled at his own supporters for wanting the “Epstein Files” released. He called them “weaklings” and said they are doing the Democrats’ work.
He wrote, “Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work, don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore!”
At a media event in the Oval Office, Trump called his critics “stupid” and “foolish.” He said the whole Epstein case was made up by Democrats to hurt him.
Leavitt praised Trump for ordering a deep review of the Epstein files by FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi. She called them “great patriots” and said they are trusted leaders in the Republican Party.
When asked if Trump would pardon Ghislane Maxwell, Epstein’s convicted partner in crime, if she is in prison because of a “hoax,” Leavitt would not answer.
Epstein’s story is one that many of Trump’s supporters care about deeply. Epstein was a former math teacher who became a rich financier. He was arrested for sex trafficking.
