Kid Rock just walked straight into Gavin Newsom’s trap. The California governor has been on a trolling streak, mocking Trump and his loyal fans by copying their online style. And this week, the musician who never misses a chance to praise Donald Trump became the punchline.
Newsom’s press office shared an AI poster of Kid Rock dressed in red, white and blue, pointing at the camera like Uncle Sam. The words read: “Kid Rock wants YOU to support Gavin Newsom.” The caption, written in Trump’s dramatic all-caps style, ended with: “I ACCEPT! — GCN.”

It was pure parody, and Kid Rock took the bait.

He reposted the image and fired back in anger. “The only support Gavin Newscum will ever get out of me is from DEEZ NUTZ,” he wrote.

Kid Rock has long been one of Trump’s loudest celebrity fans. He wore a flashy American flag suit during a White House visit, sat with Trump in the Oval Office, and performed his hit “American Bad Ass” at the Republican National Convention with altered lyrics to worship the president.
The reason it stung is simple. Newsom’s trolling is a mirror of Trump’s own behavior. Last year, Trump posted an AI image of Taylor Swift pretending she supported him. When Swift actually endorsed Kamala Harris, Trump lost it and wrote: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” He even went on to say she was “no longer hot.” It was juvenile and bitter. Newsom recycled the same joke against Kid Rock, and suddenly MAGA world did not think it was funny.
Fox News hosts and right-wing influencers are now lining up to defend Kid Rock, claiming Newsom is “unprofessional” and “obsessed.” But the outrage only highlights the double standard. When Trump calls people names and posts fake images, his fans call it strong. When Newsom does the same thing back, they scream.
Democrats, on the other hand, are loving it. Commentator Harry Sisson wrote: “I absolutely love how Gavin Newsom is treating Donald Trump with the disdain and disrespect that he absolutely deserves.” Journalist Karly Kingsley added: “I don’t think we’re giving Gavin Newsom enough credit for what he’s doing to defend democracy and to stop a wannabe dictator from consolidating power.”
Behind the trolling is real strategy. Newsom is not just mocking Trump for laughs. He is showing that Democrats can beat Trump at his own online game. The governor is rumored to be eyeing a 2028 presidential run, and his rising favorability numbers suggest voters are noticing. A new poll this month gave him 13% support among potential Democratic contenders.
