Bill Barr will be honored for his “Christlike behavior” at Wednesday’s National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, according to Roman Catholic Sister Helen Prejean, who noted that the Attorney General “has ordered the executions of six men with at least one more on the calendar.” And a seventh execution is planned.
The award honors the recipient for “Exemplary Selfless and Steadfast Service in the Lord’s Vineyard,” according to NCPB’s website. Sister Prejean, an anti-death penalty advocate, asked on Twitter, “What is “Christlike” about using discretionary power to kill?” And she added that this is scandalous — but everything about the Trump administration is scandalous.
The federal government executed William LeCroy tonight and plans to execute Christopher Vialva on Thursday. Tomorrow, the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast will present an award to the Attorney General and the President will speak to the group. This is a grave scandal.

Well, it’s not just the death penalty in Barr’s resume that is not worthy of such an award. Barr was responsible for teargassing and flash-banging peaceful protesters in front of the White House, so the president could take part in a photo-op while holding the Bible in front of a church. Barr has been serving as Donald Trump’s lapdog to defend the president’s lawless corruption and attacks on the upcoming presidential election.

Trump — who can’t even cite his favorite Bible verse — is expected to address the group today during its virtual ceremony on Wednesday.
A backlash ensued.
From Archbishop Wester: “We are appalled [the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast] will honor A.G. Barr in light of the fact he just recently began executions of federal prisoners, something that has not been done since 2003. Catholic teaching on capital punishment is clear.” https://t.co/wq34FEBiAF

Donald J. Trump shamelessly hijacked the Christian faith before he was elected into office, and while he’s been in office. I’m trying to understand Trump supporters — including Barr — at this point. It’s hard to believe that any man or woman would support a beauty pageant barker that has been accused by dozens of women of sexual assault. A man that refuses to give a DNA sample, and if innocent, it would totally exonerate him. A raging narcissist that refuses to take responsibility for his appalling actions. A man that was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. A man responsible for countless deaths after he failed to take action on the coronavirus when he first learned of the looming threat. And after all of this, they wear “Trump 2020” t-shirts as they stampede into a Target store demanding that people rip off their masks amid the raging pandemic.
Trump supporters are propping up a rapist, a fraud, a con artist — and all for a petty little man with an unquenchable desire for praise and adulation. That is not “Christlike.”
