In case you missed it recently, scandal-ridden ex-President Donald Trump — hot off the heels of a massive defeat before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of the infamous Mar-a-Lago documents — sat down for a positively wild interview with Fox New’s Sean Hannity, where he openly claimed that a United States president has the ability to declassify any information they want, with the power of nothing more than their mind.
During the interview, Donald Trump publicly asserted:
If you’re the president of the United States, you can declassify just by saying, ‘It’s declassified,’ even by thinking about it because you’re sending it to Mar-a-Lago or wherever you’re sending it. And there doesn’t have to be a process. There can be a process but there doesn’t have to be. You’re the president. You make that decision. So when you send it, it’s declassified. I declassified everything.”
As I’m sure you can imagine, for obvious reasons, the focus among most people across social media, in the aftermath of the ridiculous claims he made in the interview, has been the notion that Donald Trump apparently now believes he has some sort of psychic powers. Americans have been quick to take advantage of the humorous angle, while some have wondered if Trump has finally suffered some sort of mental break.
But while the rest of the world was busy mocking the manic former guy, understandably so, New York Times correspondent and so-called “Trump Whisperer” Maggie Haberman took to her own social media account where she covered the unhinged Hannity interview in real-time and honed in on a different take away from the whole ordeal — one that seems to include an apparent admission of guilt straight from the ex-president’s mouth.

“The focus is understandably on Trump’s claim of mental declassifications from his Hannity interview. But he appeared to indicate he intentionally sent the documents to Mar-a-Lago, which cuts against the ‘it was an accident’ claims,” Haberman wrote in a Twitter thread, following it up with a direct quote from Donald Trump’s Fox interview.
From the transcript: “If you’re the president of the United States, you can declassify just by saying, it’s declassified. Even by thinking about it, because you’re sending it to Mar-a-Lago or to wherever you’re sending it.”

Haberman’s thread came complete with several other notable observations from the berserk Hannity appearance:
Trump says someone was taking pictures of the boxes being packed in the White House

The irony of saying this on a day when James is suing over his property valuations is something. In his deposition in the @TimOBrien lawsuit, Trump said he used “mental projections” for valuations on his golf courses. https://t.co/YtPKnwPEfs

Confirming @jonathanvswan reporting about their projection that Dearie would be likely to side with them because of a narrow and specific issue in his decades-long career https://t.co/YqdD1UFFLj

At this point, Trump has shoved his own foot so far into his own mouth, it’s a thousand wonders he hasn’t choked on it.
