At a House Judiciary Committee hearing that was supposed to tackle immigration, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) took a sharp turn to roast Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for descending into right-wing nonsense. Instead of addressing actual issues, Jordan had been tweeting an AI-generated image of Trump cradling a duck and pushing the wild claim that migrants were stealing pets.

And the House Judiciary GOPā€™s Twitter? Yeah, thatā€™s where the official, taxpayer-funded handle is being used to promote this ā€œprotect our ducksā€ absurdity, because thatā€™s apparently where the focus is these days.

Pushback was quick in some comments.

This bizarre conspiracy, like many others in the MAGA playbook, was debunked by officials in Springfield, Ohio. Springfieldā€™s Strategic Engagement Manager, Karen Graves, fired back at JD Vanceā€™s claims, confirming there were no credible reports of immigrants stealing pets, squatting, or disrupting traffic.Ā Swalwell didnā€™t mince words, sarcastically asking Jordan if he was ā€œokayā€ and calling him out for disrespecting the victims of crime in the room.

This isnā€™t the first time Swalwell has clashed with Jordan. Earlier this year, he called him out for dodging subpoenasā€”because apparently, wild conspiracies are more Jordanā€™s speed than actual governance.

This latest clash between Swalwell and Jordan isnā€™t just another Capitol Hill spat; itā€™s a glimpse into how far-right disinformation is being normalized at the highest levels of government. When elected officials are more focused on pushing debunked conspiracies and AI-generated nonsense than addressing real-world issues, itā€™s clear weā€™ve crossed into dangerous territory. The stakes are real, and while Jordan and his crew are busy tweeting about imaginary pet thieves, the rest of us are left wonderingā€”what happened to the grown-ups in the room?
