At a House Judiciary Committee hearing that was supposed to tackle immigration, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) took a sharp turn to roast Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for descending into right-wing nonsense. Instead of addressing actual issues, Jordan had been tweeting an AI-generated image of Trump cradling a duck and pushing the wild claim that migrants were stealing pets.

And the House Judiciary GOPās Twitter? Yeah, thatās where the official, taxpayer-funded handle is being used to promote this āprotect our ducksā absurdity, because thatās apparently where the focus is these days.

You weren’t elected to share memes that support lies, hatred, and racism. You were elected to uphold, defend and support our constitution. If you’ve got time to post worthless, party promoting memes, then it’s time for me ( in the middle politically) to vote a Democratic ticket.

This bizarre conspiracy, like many others in the MAGA playbook, was debunked by officials in Springfield, Ohio. Springfieldās Strategic Engagement Manager, Karen Graves, fired back at JD Vanceās claims, confirming there were no credible reports of immigrants stealing pets, squatting, or disrupting traffic.Ā Swalwell didnāt mince words, sarcastically asking Jordan if he was āokayā and calling him out for disrespecting the victims of crime in the room.
This isnāt the first time Swalwell has clashed with Jordan. Earlier this year, he called him out for dodging subpoenasābecause apparently, wild conspiracies are more Jordanās speed than actual governance.
This latest clash between Swalwell and Jordan isnāt just another Capitol Hill spat; itās a glimpse into how far-right disinformation is being normalized at the highest levels of government. When elected officials are more focused on pushing debunked conspiracies and AI-generated nonsense than addressing real-world issues, itās clear weāve crossed into dangerous territory. The stakes are real, and while Jordan and his crew are busy tweeting about imaginary pet thieves, the rest of us are left wonderingāwhat happened to the grown-ups in the room?
